IMF warns Brown over public spending
Economists from the International Monetary Fund have joined the UK public spending debate with a warning to Gordon Brown that sustained increases in funding "may be difficult to implement without incurring significant waste".
The IMF's caution to the chancellor comes in a preliminary Treasury report ahead of next year's spending review: "Additional spending increases should be undertaken only if clear-cut economic justification can be found".
