The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr George Carey, is expected to retire early, shortly after his 67th birthday next year.

The Crown Appointments Commission will begin looking for his replacement as soon as an official announcement is made, the Telegraph reports.

However, the Church of England has denied the reports.
