Germany opposed to peace-keeping plan

Splits have emerged in the coalition against terror following German opposition to plans which would see the US taking overall command of the planned peace-keeping force.

Germany opposed the move as it was presented to the UN security council last night.

Under the terms of the plan, Britain will lead the three-month operation on a day-to-day basis but the US will take command in certain circumstances.
