'Cool Britannia' dead, says minister
The government's concept of promoting the Union Jack as a global cultural brand under the label of "Cool Britannia" was officially declared dead yesterday.
Tessa Jowell, the culture secretary, told foreign journalists that the idea "missed the point".
She added that the idea of Cool Britannia was "doomed to inadequacy because it tried to codify a culture. And if you codify, you ossify".
