The Prince of Wales is to work on an advisory basis on the design of new hospitals, it emerged yesterday.

After responding positively to the Department of Health's request, the prince's work will see him consult on the building programme of more than 50 major projects.

"Work is presently going on to establish the precise nature of the role," a spokesman for St James's Palace said yesterday.
