Afghan refugees face starvation
The UN has launched an appeal for £160 million to aid 7.5 million Afghans facing a harsh winter and the prospect of military strikes on their homeland. The biggest appeal in the organisation's history follows reports of tens of thousands of refugees fleeing Afghanistan as the West prepares for military strikes. The UN predicts that already-crowded refugee camps in the region could be swollen with an extra 1.5 million people in next few weeks.
