Lib Dems revolt over women-only 'tokenism'
Lib Dem delegates have rejected the "tokenism" of a leadership motion backing women only shortlists. In a lively and impassioned debate, the conference threw out a motion requiring that only women candidates be chosen for safe seats where Liberal Democrat MPs are retiring. Instead, delegates backed a motion demanding that females make up 40 per cent of the candidates in winnable seats.
