EU 'golden goodbyes' prompt Tory anger
A scheme that will see European Commission officials who are judged incompetent and their job and incapable of being retrained offered early retirement on 70 per cent of their salaries has been branded a scandal. The move is part of commissioner Neil Kinnock's attempt to reform the EC bureaucracy. Conservative MP John Redwood said: "Nice lack of work if you can get it."
