Community leaders in Bradford have criticised the home secretary, David Blunkett, for failing to visit riot torn areas on his trip to the city yesterday.

Housing minister, Lord Falconer, yesterday admitted that many people in inner cities feel forgotten and alienated by the government and recent violence in northern cities represented " a profound problem in the fabric of our society".
