Consider alternative says prisons chief
The chief inspector of prisons, Sir David Ramsbotham, has argued that those found guilty of crimes similar to Lord Archer's should not necessarily be jailed.
As he retires, Sir David says alternatives to prison must be considered for those guilty of "white collar" crime. Such a move could reduce the prison population by up to 20,000, Sir David claims.
