Chancellor Gordon Brown is set to clash with other finance ministers at a meeting of Europe's Ecofin committee in Brussels today.

Belgium, current holders of the rotating European Union presidency, have suggested that a new Europe-wide tax could be introduced to fund the EU's budget.

Brown will call on the EU ministers to stop talking about new taxes and to focus on issues that matter to people.
