Bishops in the Church of England are to be told to cut back on spending and perks following a report that finds the senior clergy cost £17 million a year, including stipends of up to £31,000.

The bishops' housing costs £3.3 million and expenses have risen by over 50 per cent in the last decade to £9 million.
