Farmers criticise transport costs

The National Farmers Union said it had been "inundated" with complaints after it emerged that farmers will have to pay extra charges before they can send animals currently trapped in areas infected by foot and mouth disease to slaughter. Farmers have to pay for veterinary checks on each animal, as well as the cleaning and disinfecting of the lorries used to transport them.
