Ofsted will reduce the number of visits its makes to schools and cut paperwork for head teachers.

The move follows a DfEE review which found that one in five primary and one in ten secondary schools found the inspectorate's demands excessive. Chief inspector, Mike Tomlinson, restated Ofsted's six yearly inspection regime but has pledged to streamline the process.
