Virgin gets £100m payout

Virgin trains are to get a £100 million payout from Railtrack for the disruption caused to the company's operations after the Hatfield rail crash.

But Sir Richard Branson said the payout comes too late to cancel a 10 per cent fare increase due to hit passengers in two week's time and has frozen fares for a year. Virgin had justified the three-times inflation rise by saying Railtrack compensation had not covered losses.
