Foreign Office remains 'elitist'

In spite of attempts by foreign secretary, Robin Cook, to encourage Foreign Office recruits from red-brick universities, the number of recruits from Oxbridge and public schools has increased.

The number of Oxbridge graduates entering the FO fast track has risen by 13 per cent - from 44 to 57 per cent. The number of recruits from public schools is up from 60 to 64 per cent.
