Government spends £16.4m on adverts

The government has agreed substantial spending on advertising in the run-up to a general election.

Whitehall departments spent £16.4 million on adverts in February making the government the biggest spender in the advertising industry. In 2000 Whitehall was the country's fourth largest advertiser.
