Tories attack Labour on aid

The Tories have claimed that the public has little faith in the government's overseas aid policy.

Gary Streeter, the shadow international development secretary, said that Labour had "sat on its hands while corruption abounds" in the developing world.

The Commons yesterday passed at second reading a bill which will effectively end "aid for trade".

Clare Short said Labour would free aid from commercial considerations in order to focus it towards the poorest and those most in need.
