The prime minister will today pledge to deliver £100 million to develop greener energy through a so-called green industrial revolution.

His pledge will come in his third speech on the environment since he became prime minister - which has been dismissed by the Conservatives as a "sudden fake burst of concern" about the area.

However, Labour's green credentials have taken a knock, with the Commons environmental audit select committee yesterday claiming that the government had kicked environmental concerns out of the window when it cut fuel tax last year in response to protests.
