Jobless figure below 1m for first time in 25 years
The number of unemployed has fallen below one million for the first time in 25 years, the government will announce today. Ministers will use the figures to publicise the initiatives Labour will use to build on this if it wins a second term. These will include a move towards US-style "welfare to work policies".
