Law Commission calls for end to double jeopardy

The Law Commission has proposed that the ancient double jeopardy rule should be axed in a move which would see those acquitted of murder potentially facing a second trial.

If parliament accepts the proposed change, the three men accused of the murder of Stephen Lawrence could face a second court appearance, providing "compelling" new evidence was discovered.
