The shadow health secretary Liam Fox sought to diffuse the row over abortion yesterday saying that he did not want the laws which legalise abortions to be repealed.

Fox said he would not back moves to ban abortions altogether, but did call for a review of the 24-week limit during which time operations can be performed legally.
