Health secretary Alan Milburn is set to hold a health summit in a bid to find new ways to get people to become organ donors.

The meeting will bring together surgeons, transplant groups and unions, and comes in the wake of the Alder Hey scandal which revealed the extent to which organs have been taken without consent.

However, fears of a shortage of donated organs were reduced after official figures showed that since the scandal first became public in 1999 the number of organ donations has increased.
