Home Office ditches £77 million computer system

The Home Office has been forced to abandon a £77 million computer system designed to reduce the backlog of asylum applications.

The admission by Jack Straw came in a written statement and means the government is unlikely to meet targets on reducing the backlog of 66,000 applications.
