EU to fund political parties
The Times claims that a new EU subsidy is set to be proposed for political parties if they are a part of a political group in the European parliament.
Labour and the Liberal Democrats would qualify for funding as members of the Socialist group and Liberal Democratic Reform group respectively.
The Conservatives, who are not formally part of any EU-wide political group, would not qualify for funding and have attacked the move saying it represents an attempt by the EU to fund pro-integration parties.
