Thousands of miners claims rejected

Thousands of miners claiming they have a lung disease as a result of working under ground will be rejected from a compensation scheme. The government says that so far 40 per cent of claimants have been rejected because the illness was either brought on by other factors, such as smoking, or their claims were false. Helen Liddell blamed a number of unscrupulous solicitors for being part of the problem. Miners unions have vowed to fight every rejected case.
