Joschka Fischer, Germany's outspoken foreign minister, mounted an attack on the Tories' euro-policy yesterday.

In a speech in London he said that Conservative claims of a creeping European superstate had "nothing" to do with the real world.

However, he shied away from using emotive, pro-European, terms - responding to calls from Labour to keep the speech low-key.
