Post-only voting experiment given go-ahead
The home secretary, Jack Straw, has authorised further trials of all-postal ballots in local council elections as part of a series of experiments aimed at increasing voter turn-out in elections. There is evidence that post-only elections may double the number of people taking part in local elections. The experiments will take place in Norfolk, Reading, Staffordshire and West Sussex. A trial of electronic vote counting will take place in Hertfordshire.
