Clarke points to euro-zone success

Former Conservative chancellor Ken Clarke yesterday challenged anti-euro campaigners to admit to the economic success currently being enjoyed by the euro-zone countries. He said: "As I predicted 12 months ago, the euro-zone has enjoyed strong economic growth this year and I expect those countries that have adopted the single currency to forge ahead in 2001." Clarke predicted that hard-line anti-Europe campaigners would not reflect on the euro's success in their campaigning.
