EU warns Irish government on spending

The European Commission yesterday intervened in Irish economic policy when it called on the Dublin government to halt its expansionist policies.

Economic commissioner, Pedro Solbes, said that the commission was set to end the contradiction between Dublin's plans for tax cuts combined with increased spending and the EU's "calls for budgetary restraint".
