Rate cut expected
Expectations of a cut in interest rates heightened yesterday after it emerged that the Monetary Policy Committee of the Bank of England voted by five to four against a cut at its last meeting.
The intervention of Sir Eddie George prevented rates being cut by 0.25 per cent although it is now expected that the MPC will cut rates when it next meets on February 8.
