Voter apathy to increase, says poll

A Guardian/ICM poll out today states that the turnout at the next election could be the lowest for 55 years, with the "stay at home" factor likely to cost Labour vital votes in their traditional heartland seats, but not enough to stop them winning comfortably.

The poll also reveals that over 40 per cent of Tory voters - and only 50 per cent of Labour voters - believe that Labour will win. However, one in three voters across the board are unsure as to how they would vote - representing a large pool of "floating" voters for the party machines to target.
