Deaths in police custody fall
ePolitix
A review by the Police Complaints Authority has found a large fall in the number of deaths in police custody.
In the nine months to December 2000 there were 23 deaths, compared with 47 in the twelve months to April 2000 and 65 in the year before that. The figures were released as the Metropolitan Police prepared to pilot a scheme where nurses will be employed in police stations to examine prisoners.
