Councils to make use of road charging powers
More than 30 councils including Reading, Manchester and Bristol intend to make use of new powers introduced by the government to allow road tolls or workplace parking charges. Ministers estimate the charges could generate £3 billion over the next 10 years but no schemes are expected to gain ministerial approval until after the next election, due to worries that they might be unpopular with motorists.
