Organs scandal 'unforgivable' says Milburn
The full scale of the organs scandal was made public yesterday in a move which could see hospitals facing a wave of criticism and demands over 100,000 stored organs.
The health secretary, Alan Milburn, said the 600-page report into the actions of Professor Dick van Velzen laid bare the full horror of the organs scandal. "He lied to parents. He lied to other doctors. The pain caused to parents...is unforgivable," he said.
The government yesterday announced a review of the coroners system following the publication of the damning report into the events at Alder Hay hospital.
Parents of children who died at the hospital, who were yesterday praised for their dignity by MPs, are now demanding an apology from both the hospital and Liverpool University.
