Tory grandee attacks modern party
Former Tory prime minister Sir Edward Heath said yesterday that the party's fisheries policy rendered the Conservatives unelectable. Heath, who took Britain into the EEC, poured fuel on the Tory flames over Europe with a parliamentary speech in the annual fisheries debate. Responding to a speech from spokesman Malcolm Moss, Heath said that "If they [the Conservatives] can't withdraw from the common fisheries policy, they withdraw and leave the community together...having it put so plainly...gives a complete assurance that they are never going to return to power".
