Government dismisses helicopter crash report
The Commons Public Accounts Committee has declared that the RAF board of inquiry decision to blame the two pilots for the Mull of Kintyre helicopter crash amounted to "a major miscarriage of justice". The government brushed aside parliament's concerns, with defence minister Geoff Hoon calling it "superficial". Adding to the controversy, Bruce George, the chairman of the Commons Defence Committee, who stressed he was speaking in a personal capacity, accused the PAC of "overstepping its remit and drawing ill-founded conclusions about matters which are not its concern."
