Guardian to challenge succession laws

The Guardian is set to mount a legal challenge to the law on succession to the British throne, arguing that it is incompatible with the new Human Rights Act. The 300 year-old rules ban Roman Catholics and other non-Protestants from any claim to the throne. The paper has also commissioned a survey which reveals that 60 per cent of the public see themselves as citizens rather than royal subjects.
