Prodi calls for Britain to end vetos

President of the EU, Romano Prodi, yesterday said Britain must give up its veto over taxes and immigration. Following his speech at the CBI conference, government ministers were forced to rebuff his remarks saying the vetos were not up for negotiation. Prodi used Tony Blair's words when he said he wanted Europe to become a superpower not a superstate.
