Sign of the times for Tory election spending
The Conservatives are set to spend £6.5 million on advertising in the run up to the next election - about half of what they spent in 1997. Tory campaign strategists have developed plans that they hope will allow the party to get its message across to an increasingly cynical electorate without running up a huge overdraft.
