The Food Standards Agency called on the EU to prevent animal feed from being contaminated with BSE by toughening controls. In a five year review of safety measures, the FSA warned that other EU countries do not have controls over the types of animal feed used. BSE contaminated feed is the route blamed for the spread of "mad cow disease" in the UK. The report comes a day after it was revealed that the French BSE crisis is getting worse.
