A Labour MP is calling on the government to rethink its plans to restrict Commonwealth immigration. Austin Mitchell is using a Westminster Hall debate on Tuesday to highlight the damage he says will be done to the UK's relations with its former empire. In an interview with ePolitix.com the Greater Grimsby MP said that the government's plan to further restrict the visiting and migration rights of Commonwealth citizens was a mistake.

Minister for young people Kevin Brennan and Equality and Human Rights Commission chairman Trevor Phillips are among the speakers at a conference hosted by Barnardo's and 4Children.

The Campaign to Protect Rural England, the UK Noise Association and the Quiet Garden Movement host a conference on the importance of peace and tranquillity. Final polls suggest that Labour will lose more than 200 council seats in England and Wales, according to the Guardian. A national poll by ComRes puts the Conservatives on 40 per cent and Labour on 26 per cent, while a YouGov poll predicts Boris Johnson will take 46 per cent of the London mayoral election vote to Ken Livingstone's 35 per cent.

Committee chairman Edward Leigh said: "The internet is transforming the way in which government communicates with and provides services to citizens. But the government's enthusiastic embrace of this new world of web-delivered services is not matched by a commensurate level of understanding of what it is achieving through its websites, how effective they are or whether they represent value for money."

The Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology publishes reports on electricity storage and on wildlife diseases.

The Joseph Rowntree Foundation publishes a report on night-time care in residential homes. It finds that the quality of night-time care in residential homes is at risk due to a lack of routine inspections and adequate training or supervision of night-time staff.

The Council of Mortgage Lenders releases its latest market commentary.

The CBI releases its monthly distributive trades survey.

The Department for Children, Schools and Families releases data on pupil characteristics and class sizes in maintained Schools in England and figures on the school workforce in England.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs releases air quality sustainable development indicators for 2007, and data on the UK uptake of sea fish quotas.

HM Revenue and Customs releases child benefit annual statistics, and child tax credit and working tax credit statistics.

The Information Centre for Health and Social Care publishes a prescription cost analysis for 2007.

The Scottish government releases fire statistics and data on independent schools.

NHS Scotland releases acute activity admissions data.

The Welsh Assembly Government releases data on delayed transfers of care, NHS Trust bed use and patient numbers, and hospital treatment for Welsh residents.

The Bank of England releases data on lending to individuals, a sectoral breakdown of aggregate M4 and M4 lending, and monetary and financial statistics.

The Office for National Statistics releases data on weekly deaths in England and Wales.
