Winterton 'to become chief whip'

Rosie Winterton is expected to become Labour chief whip after being asked to fill the role by party leader Ed Miliband.
According to the BBC, former farming minister Jim Fitzpatrick has withdrawn from the running for the job.
Miliband earlier asked the current chief whip Nick Brown to stand aside, explaining that his appointment would be "counter to my ambition to lead a new generation".
It is reported that Winterton has accepted the offer and will be elected unopposed.
She has served as shadow leader of the House in the new Parliament.
Nominations for the post close, alongside those for 19 other shadow cabinet posts, at 5pm.
