Wednesday's fringe picks - time to say goodbye
By Tony Grew - 6th October 2010
Conference will come to an end this afternoon after David Cameron has rallied the troops with his leader's speech at 2.30pm.
There are still lots of fringes before that, beginning at 8am, when Dominic Raab, one of the 149 new Tory MPs elected in May, will be discussing fox hunting with the League Against Cruel Sports.
At the same time the Bow Group is hosting a breakfast event on financial services regulation.
Another bright young new MP, Jackie Doyle-Price, will be on the panel alongside Andrew Tyrie, chair of the Commons Treasury select committee.
Also at 8am, following their cocktail reception last night, the Government of Bermuda will be asking how to optimise their status as an overseas territory at their fringe meeting.
The difficult issues of trafficking and prostitution will be on the agenda at the Eaves event entitled: From Belle du Jour to Bradford. Anna van Heeswijk from campaign group Object will be on the panel.
Skipping ahead to the lunchtime fringes, NHBC and the Public Services Trust will be discussing social business at 12.30pm - minister for civil society Nick Hurd will be joined by another star of the new intake, Jesse Norman.
At the same time the Charities Aid Foundation and the Community Foundation Network will be asking: Who pays for the big society?
Oxfam are holding a "cabaret event" on how benefits can help combat poverty, also at 12.30pm.
At the same time the Police Federation, ACPO and the Superintendents' Association will be discussing the state of the thin blue line with Nick Herbert, minister of state for policing and criminal justice.
And finally for Wednesday, and for this conference season, the Anne Frank Trust UK will be asking: What kind of country do you want?
That event is at 12.30pm in the ICC and Martina Milburn, chief executive of The Prince's Trust, will be among those telling us their vision for Britain.
