    Select committees get to work

    By Tony Grew
    - 14th July 2010

Finally – after weeks of elections first for the chairs and then for the members, the select committees are up and running.

And boy are some of them keen – the Treasury committee and energy committee gave already held evidence sessions.

Tomorrow sees the home affairs committee grilling Theresa May, while their colleagues on the Treasury committee will be questioning the chancellor, George Osborne.

The international development committee will be getting to know the department's new secretary of state, Andrew Mitchell.

And the brand new political and constitutional reform committee will be questioning deputy prime minister Nick Clegg about the AV referendum, fewer MPs representing more equally sized constituencies, and fixed-term parliaments.

All in all, a busy day on the committee corridor.
