2nd July 2010A referendum on changing the voting system will be held in under a years' time, according to the BBC.
The broadcaster reports that deputy prime minister Nick Clegg is set to announce that a vote on ditching first past the post in favour of the alternative vote system will be held on May 5 2011.
Holding the vote on that day would be expected to boost turnout, as it is the same day as local elections.
And the Guardian expects the coalition government to make the announcement on Tuesday, as part of a wider constitutional package including the equalisation of constituency sizes.
Today also sees the publication of quango bosses salaries by the Cabinet Office. The Independent reports that more than 140 quango chiefs earn more than the prime minister.
At the Iraq inquiry today witnesses include Trevor Woolley, financial director of the Ministry of Defence from 2003 to 2009.
