Brits throw away £17bn of food
By Tony Grew - 9th September 2010
The average UK household unnecessarily wastes around £480 of food per year, according to government figures.
Defra minister Richard Benyon revealed the extent of waste in the country's food and drink supply chain and by households at departmental questions today -- £17 billion every year.
Portsmouth MP Penny Mordaunt said her constituents are producing a recipe book focused on using leftover food.
Benyon said he had a recipe to share, but his Labour opposite number "might be upset to know that it contains meat".
