The Training and Development Agency for Schools

The Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA)

The TDA is the national agency and recognised sector body responsible for recruiting high quality teachers into schools. We also promote continuing professional development for the entire school workforce, including the new Masters in Teaching and Learning for newly qualified teachers (NQTs), and the delivery of extended services.

We play a central role in supporting the workforce to help children and young people meet the outcomes of the Every Child Matters agenda. Our guiding vision is:

Developing people, improving young lives

The Role of the TDA

A remit letter from the Department for Children Schools and Families (DCSF) is sent to the TDA every year which identifies the TDA's priorities and role in ensuring all children and young people achieve their full potential.

The 2009-10 remit letter outlines that the TDA will work with the DCSF to ensure:

• High quality teaching and learning in every classroom, with particular emphasis on subjects in which teachers are in short supply: science, technology, engineering and maths teachers.
• Effective and quality CPD for the whole school workforce (including the new Masters in Teaching and Learning for eligible NQTs) through support for the professional standards, induction and performance management. We are also working hard to promote the effective deployment of everyone who works in a school.
• Support for the continuing development and rollout of high quality and extended services.
