National Skills Forum inquiry into low skills reinforcing exclusion and inequality

The final report from a major inquiry into how improved skills training for socially disadvantaged groups can lead to greater social inclusion will be launched at the House of Commons at 4pm on Wednesday 3rd February.

The five-month inquiry from the National Skills Forum (NSF), co-chaired by Gordon Marsden MP and Jacqui Henderson CBE, focuses on the barriers and missed opportunities for better skills training and social inclusion encountered by three traditionally disadvantaged groups: black and minority ethnic groups, those with disabilities, offenders and ex offenders.

The inquiry heard evidence from employers, training providers, ministers, shadow ministers, civil servants, educationalists and reveals the opinions and perspectives of ex-offenders, penal reform groups, ethnic minority and disability groups.

The National Skills Forum announced the inquiry in September 2009. The inquiry called for evidence on: funding, careers advice, employer behaviour, attitudinal responses, government policy and progression routes.
