Nuclear Dialogue

Nuclear Energy: The Future

DODS is pleased to be working with the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), the Nuclear Industry Association (NIA), Energy Solutions, e.on, Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMECHE), Northwest Development Agency (NWDA) and Westinghouse to deliver an open and transparent dialogue on the contribution nuclear power will make to the UK's future energy needs.

The programme of research and dialogue will focus on three key themes:

  • Nuclear, Part of the Solution: Why Should Nuclear Power be in the UK's energy mix?
  • Nuclear Opportunities: What does Nuclear Power mean for the UK moving forward?
  • Decommissioning and Waste: How does the UK decommission stations, handle legacy waste and manage new waste?

In tackling these issues the programme will raise awareness and inform debate around many of the challenges and opportunities that lye ahead such as: security & safety; skills; security of energy supply, environmental impact, economic impact and of course social impact. This is to be achieved through a series of interlocking tasks, including polling MPs and Peers, as well as the wider body politic, a variety of Delphi Groups bringing key stakeholders together to discuss issues in a deliberative and iterative fashion, supplements to disseminate the findings of the Delphi Groups and to highlight the views and opinions of other key players within the industry, fringe meetings at each Party Political Conference this autumn and finally culminating in a Nuclear Summit towards the end of 2008.
